What are the responsibilities?

• Setting up, operating, and maintaining a variety of CNC machines to perform precision, non-repetitive machining operations in a fast-paced manufacturing environment; these operations include sawing, turning, milling, boring, planning, drilling, precision grinding, etc.
• Fitting and assembling machined metal parts and subassemblies
• Reading, interpreting engineering drawings, blueprints, and equipment specs to determine appropriate machining operation, plan best sequence of operations accordingly
• Computing dimensions and tolerances, measuring and laying out work pieces
• Verifying dimensions of products for accuracy, ensuring conformity to specifications via precision measuring instruments
• Completing start-ups on new equipment, maintaining, repairing, and calibrating precision measuring instruments, ensuring machines are in safe, operational order at all times
• Setting up, programming machine tools
• Verifying dimensions of machined parts or tooling using micrometers, verniers, calipers, co-ordinate measuring machines, or other instruments
• Providing technical support, coaching and mentorship to junior machinists
• Backing up production and maintenance as necessary

What are the requirements?

• Red Seal Machinist – trade qualification required, no exceptions
• 3-5 years of relevant machining experience, ideally within a manufacturing environment or reputable machine shop (metals strongly preferred)
• Strong knowledge of CNC equipment
• Excellent computer skills, experience programming (CAM) and operating CNC
• Advanced technical skills as they relate to machining
• Ability to work days and afternoons
• High regard for safety, willingness to support a strong safety culture
