Job Posting: Database Developer and Power BI Specialist

Location: Toronto, Ontario (Initial onsite work, with the possibility for remote work thereafter)

Contract Duration: January 20, 2025 – March 31, 2025 (No extension available)

Work Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM (30-minute unpaid lunch, 2 paid 15-minute breaks)

Dress Code: Business Casual

Security Clearance: Valid Reliability Security Clearance required before the first day of work.

Job Overview:

We are seeking a skilled and experienced Database Developer with Power BI expertise to support the development of a MS Access database and the creation of related reports. This is a contract position based in Toronto, Ontario, and will require both onsite work at the client site initially, with potential for remote work once the setup phase is completed.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and construct an MS Access database to support the Office of the Registrar’s demographic database.
  • Populate the database with data from multiple sources, including MS Access, Excel, SharePoint, and others.
  • Design, build, and test the MS Access database, ensuring that all features meet the client’s needs.
  • Develop Power BI reports linked to the MS Access database to track and analyze student demographic trends.
  • Conduct workshops and meetings as required to validate and prioritize features with key stakeholders.
  • Regularly provide progress updates and participate in weekly meetings.

Required Qualifications:

  • Proficiency in MS Access database development and design.
  • Minimum of 6 months experience in creating and maintaining SQL queries.
  • Strong experience in developing and deploying Power BI reports.
  • At least 6 months of experience working with MS SharePoint and MS 365 environments.
  • Expertise in MS Excel with a minimum of two years of experience.
  • Knowledge of SQL-based database systems and design principles.
  • Ability to work independently, manage time efficiently, and communicate effectively.

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Experience in Python or R (not required but an asset).
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Analytics, or a related field.
  • Experience with data migration and integration from multiple sources.

Additional Information:

  • This role will start onsite, with a desk and computer provided at the client. Once initial tasks are set up, remote work may be possible base on candidate experience
  • All travel and living expenses are the responsibility of the contractor.
  • The contractor will be expected to maintain confidentiality and adhere to security requirements, as all work is classified as unclassified or Protected A.
  • Intellectual property related to the MS Access database and Power BI reports will be owned by the Government of Canada.
