Electrical Estimator
A leading power line restoration company in North America with operations in New Brunswick, Ontario, Quebec, and New England is seeking a motivated, industry-experienced Estimator to join its Projects Services team based in Fredericton, New Brunswick. As an important member of the Projects Services team, you will be responsible for estimating labor, vehicle, equipment, and material requirements for substation and line construction/maintenance projects.
Key Responsibilities:
– Review plans to understand the project scope of work.
– Attend and gather information during pre-Tender site visits at industrial sites or electric utilities in NB, NS, & PEI.
– Interpret substation one-line diagrams and overhead line plan & profile drawings.
– Participate in the preparation of tender submissions, including bid bonds, insurance certificates, etc.
– Develop material lists and bill of materials.
– Assist the Procurement team with the specification of equipment and material, including selecting manufacturers and products as alternatives equivalent to those specified on a Bill of Materials.
– Prepare and coordinate approval of invoices, monthly accruals, and expenditures for day-to-day operations.
– Perform job costing validations post-project and continuously evaluate and improve estimation processes to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
Qualifications:
– 5+ years of experience in a similar or related role.
– Completion of or current enrollment in a relevant certification, Estimator, Project Management Professional, etc. is preferred.
– Strong knowledge of design and construction of electrical infrastructure, specifically Utility, Industrial, or renewable energy substations, and/or overhead and underground distribution lines or renewable energy collector systems, up to 35kV.
– Strong knowledge of industry standards and equipment specifications & ratings, for items such as: circuit breakers and switches, transformers, insulators, cable & conductor, and assorted pole line hardware.
– Strong knowledge of Utility Standard Construction Practices and experience interpreting the Canadian Electrical Code, specifically Sections related to medium & high voltage.
– Excellent math, analytical, and critical thinking skills.
– Effective communication and interpersonal abilities.
– Proficiency in Excel, Word, Microsoft Teams, and Outlook.
– Proficiency in estimation software is an asset.
– Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
This position also requires candidates to:
– Have and maintain a valid driver’s license and provide a driver’s abstract (record) for review.
– Travel to other company locations or work locations for temporary assignments, meetings, site reviews, or training (estimated to be ~10% of the work schedule).
