Senior Superintendent – Water & Sewer Division – Ottawa
The Opportunity
A well-established and respected heavy civil contractor is seeking an experienced Senior Superintendent to lead critical water and sewer infrastructure projects within the Ottawa region. This role offers the opportunity to make a meaningful impact on local infrastructure—without the need for out-of-town travel.
The successful candidate will play a key leadership role on-site, ensuring projects are delivered safely, on time, and to the highest quality standards.
Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and manage all field operations on water, storm, and sanitary sewer construction projects
  • Coordinate field crews, subcontractors, equipment, and materials to maximize productivity and ensure compliance with safety and quality standards
  • Plan, supervise, and oversee the installation, maintenance, and repair of underground utility systems
  • Conduct regular site inspections and ensure adherence to all environmental, safety, and construction regulations
  • Host and participate in progress meetings with clients, consultants, and municipal stakeholders
  • Mentor and support field personnel, fostering a culture of accountability and professional development
  • Manage subcontractor activities to ensure alignment with project scope and schedule
  • Support estimating, scheduling, and coordination of specialty services such as manhole rehabilitation and catch basin installation
  • Track project costs and resources, identifying efficiencies to maintain or improve profitability
  • Implement and enforce site procedures to ensure consistent operations and safety compliance
  • Maintain accurate daily records including timesheets, safety documentation, and progress reports
  • Liaise with municipal departments, regulatory agencies, and utility companies to ensure seamless project delivery
  • Contribute to construction planning, procurement, scheduling, and quality assurance
  • Assist with project financials, including budgeting, purchasing, and invoice approvals
  • Respond promptly to inquiries, compliance issues, and public service requests
Qualifications & Experience
  • 15+ years of progressive experience in heavy civil construction with a strong focus on sewer and water infrastructure
  • A diploma, degree, or trade background in construction or a related technical discipline
  • Proven ability to lead multidisciplinary crews on complex civil projects
  • In-depth knowledge of construction methods, health and safety standards, and cost tracking practices
  • Strong skills in interpreting drawings, specifications, and contractual documents
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and organizational abilities
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Valid Ontario Class G Driver’s License
  • Experience managing unionized workforces and subcontractors is considered an asset
