Senior Environmental Project Leader (Geochemistry)- ON & BC
We are seeking a Senior Environmental Project Leader / Senior Geochemist to act as a senior level mine water quality project leader, based in Ontario or BC. As a key member of the environmental services group, you will be responsible for contributing to water quality geochemistry field programs, environmental assessments, and permitting activities for projects focused on mining.
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in water quality and a deep understanding of Canadian provincial water quality guidelines, legislation, regulations, licensing, and permitting, particularly relating to mining in Ontario, British Columbia, and Atlantic Canada.

Key Job Responsibilities:
- Lead multi-discipline teams with water related mining projects, including geochemists, water quality specialists, hydrogeologists, and engineers
- Oversee geochemistry / water quality modeling projects from conception to completion for major mining projects
- Provide technical support for water resource and environmental projects
- Support geochemical and water quality components of projects
- Provide guidance to clients, project managers and technical staff on mining related water issues.
- Lead water quality and quantity model projects
- Interpret and analyze data
- Perform research on specific technical issues or projects
- Collaborate with scientific and engineering professionals
- Prepare technical reportsPerform QA/QC of technical documents
- Conduct and support fieldwork as needed
- Execute proposal development and project tasks, financial and schedule management
- Lead complex projects with a high degree of initiative and independence and apply a broad range of knowledge
- Promote a health and safety culture
Key Technical Requirements / Knowledge:
- Fluent understanding of Canadian and provincial water quality guidelines, legislation, regulations, licensing and permitting particularly relating to mining in British Columbia, Ontario and Atlantic Canada
- Ability and willingness to travel to lead field crews, perform environmental monitoring, or participate in off-site meetings with clients and/or regulatory agencies
- Fundamental understanding of project-task management
- Proven ability to analyze field and technical data, perform research, demonstrate technical knowledge, and problem solve
- Strong organizational and communications skills (able to communicate solutions in writing, verbally, and graphically)
- Strong technical aptitude
- Time management skills in balancing immediate and long-term work with varying priorities and deadlines
- Solid computer skills are a must including working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
- Knowledge of water chemistry and contaminant transport modeling software (i.e. Goldsim, PHREEQC, Minteq, MIN3P), Excel, database software, etc., is preferred
- Experience preparing environmental assessments/ impact statements and other regulatory applications
Qualifications / Experience:
- B.Sc. in Geochemistry, Hydrology, Hydrogeology, or Earth Sciences/Engineering) with a specific focus in the areas of geochemistry, preference may be given to those with advanced degree
- Professional registration or eligibility is required (P.Geo. or P.Eng.)
- Minimum of 10-15 years of experience, which must include relevant consulting experience in the mining sector, including mine waste geochemistry assessment, water quality predictions, water quality modelling or the assessment of water quality impacts
- Excellent project leadership skills
- Proven ability to coach and mentor teams pertaining to Geochemistry and mine water quality modeling
- Knowledge of water chemistry and contaminant transport modeling software (i.e. Goldsim, PHREEQC, Minteq, MIN3P), Excel, database software, etc., is preferred
- Valid Driver’s License required
- Excellent written and verbal communications skills
