Senior Building Automation (BAS) Designer/ Design Engineer – GTA
Job Summary
The Senior Building Automation (BAS) Design leads BAS design for major new construction projects, supporting BAS engineering, project, service, and sales teams. A Senior BAS Designer is defined as one who has demonstrated a competency in technical leadership, team building skills and desire for the BAS department success.
Summary of Essential Job Functions
- Lead BAS Design projects in maintaining the highest level of technical competence and expertise and value-added solutions that will result in customer satisfaction while adhering to the company’s short and long term financial
- Review project contract plans and specifications, sales estimates and take-off sheets.
- Design Building Automation Systems as per contract plans and specifications, including damper schedule, valve schedules, sequence of operations, bill of materials, and etc.
- Prepares submittal documents, as-builts, commission documents, and operation and maintenance manuals.
- Provide technical support to the project team and service team and support ongoing development and coordination of the company’s engineering standards, policies, procedures, monitoring and reporting.
- Assist with project and service group documentation and sales proposal.
- Assist with site commissioning
- Uphold company standards, policies and procedures.
- Communicate and share resources to provide support to construction team and service team.
- Assist project manager and service supervisor ensure that comprehensive projects and related assignments are implemented, perform to design specifications, built to the prescribed quality, communicated and reported in accordance.
- Perform field activities as required, such as field survey site meeting and etc.
- Assist the project team, service team, and sales team regarding all BAS related work. This to include, but not limited to proposals, studies, estimates, implementation, commissioning, etc. as required.
- Assist the project team and service team in developing and using tools, processes methodology and policy as it relates to the planning, implementation, and improvement of services
- Assist in the development and enhancement of products and services that can be offered to our existing and prospective clients.
BAS Design
- Create / review design submittals (incl. Point list, Flow Layouts, Sequence, Network Layout, B.O.M., etc) by reviewing quote, scope of work, equipment cutsheets and Mechanical drawings as per the project schedule
- Create / review material orders
- Coordinate with our customers and installers as needed to generate accurate submittals
- Issue RFI’s as needed
- Keep up to date project folders for any relevant files and correspondence related to the design of the project.
- Attend site meetings as required
- Review marked up drawings and commissioning notes to create accurate project as built and close-out documents.
- Assist internal/external customers with configuration and set-up of controllers for projects which includes configuration, addressing, downloading, testing and labelling.
- Create internal control panel documentation, coordinate with purchasing, panel shop and project lead as required to execute panels based on customer expectations and time lines
- Assist with database generation by creating and modifying control system graphics.
- Generate Asset Tags and maintain building database using Builtspace software
- Program simple to complex controls systems using factory provided software such as Tridium N4, Distech, Honeywell, Johnson Controls
- Contribute to design team standards
- Coordinate with team members (design and Field) on status of projects and Deadlines.
Experience / Qualifications:
- Minimum 8-12 years Building Automation Design experience
- Demonstrated through knowledge of HVAC control systems
- Extensive BAS Design experience in support of large new construction projects
- Proven BAS System Design expertise utilizing Visio and related software
- Fluent in Microsoft Office, including Visio or Script programming software.
- Strong expertise with Microsoft Software (including Excel, Outlook, etc.).
- The ability to read and understand construction plans and specs and product documentation.
- Experienced in supporting BAS Engineers, Project Managers, Estimators and Sales teams
- Ability to interface effectively with clients and contractors
- Ability to multi-task between design, technical support and other duties and responsibilities
- Ability to work effectively in a team-based environment with minimal supervision
- Valid Driver’s license and the
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
