The Project
Join a large provincial digital services team driving a multi-year modernization of public-facing services. You’ll work within a Digital Design & Delivery environment that embraces human-centred design, agile delivery, and modern data practices to ship secure, reliable, and accessible services at scale.
The Role
We’re hiring three Senior QA Engineers to lead quality across enterprise platforms, products, and services. You’ll collaborate with product, design, and engineering teams to plan and execute comprehensive testing (manual + automated), champion quality practices, and enable continuous delivery.
What you’ll do
- Quality strategy & planning: Create test plans, test cases, and scripts that support frequent, incremental releases.
- Functional testing: System, integration, regression, smoke, sanity, and exploratory testing.
- Non-functional testing: Usability, compatibility, cross-browser, and mobile/device testing.
- API testing: Security, performance, data validation, error handling, integration, and standards compliance.
- Performance & security: Load, stress, scalability, response-time testing; vulnerability/pen-testing, authN/authZ checks (OWASP-aligned practices).
- Database testing: Author SQL queries, validate data integrity/consistency, and support data conversion testing.
- Test automation: Implement and coordinate automated suites to enable rapid CI/CD.
- Defect management: Track, triage, and report with clear repro steps, logs, and evidence; verify fixes without regressions.
- Quality metrics: Contribute to automated collection and reporting of quality KPIs; drive continuous improvement.
- Culture: Promote quality-first practices within cross-functional, agile teams.
What you bring
- Senior QA background in large, complex environments; comfortable leading quality in cross-functional agile teams.
- Manual + automation expertise across web, API, mobile, and data layers.
- Hands-on SQL for data validation and conversion testing.
- Performance & security testing exposure (e.g., JMeter/Locust/Gatling; OWASP concepts).
- Tooling (examples, not exhaustive):
- UI/API automation: Playwright, Cypress, Selenium, Postman/Newman
- Performance: JMeter, Locust, Gatling
- CI/CD & versioning: Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions, GitLab CI
- Scripting: Shell; Python is an asset
- Schedulers: Control-M or similar (asset)
- Soft skills: Excellent communication, critical thinking, stakeholder collaboration, and a knack for simplifying complex quality risks.
- Work authorization: Eligible to work in Canada.
Contract & Hours
- Hours/week: ~36.25 (7.25/day), Monthly timesheets (Standard).
- Term: Work is full-time across 2–3 concurrent projects; each term may include up to 1,960 hours (actuals may vary based on project needs).
- Work model: Remote-first in Alberta; occasional in-person sessions in Edmonton with reasonable notice. Some in-province travel (~up to 15%) for field research/user interviews may occur (arranged where possible).
- Rate: Competitive; open to incorporated contractors.
Nice to have
- Experience in public sector or highly regulated environments.
- Exposure to AI-assisted testing, reusable test components/suites, and quality analytics.
