The Project
A provincial technology division is undertaking major modernization and enhancement initiatives to improve service delivery. A key area of focus is Applications Maintenance Support (AMS) activities, which ensure mission-critical systems remain reliable, secure, and scalable.
This work spans application maintenance, modernization, and new feature delivery — all in support of streamlining services, improving data reporting, and enabling agile technology practices.
The Role
We are seeking a Senior IT Technical Business Analyst to bridge business and technology needs, gathering requirements, facilitating process improvements, and supporting solution design and delivery. This role will work closely with program managers, release managers, technical teams, and internal stakeholders across multiple GoA initiatives.
What you’ll do
- Lead consultations, workshops, and stakeholder meetings.
- Document business requirements, functional specs, and technical requirements.
- Facilitate process reviews and re-engineering sessions; support business process improvements.
- Support application enhancements, incident management, and release coordination across teams.
- Participate in Agile ceremonies, product backlog prioritization, and sprint planning.
- Provide business architecture design, system specification design, and database modeling.
- Produce project artifacts (requirements, functional designs, project plans, UML/XML docs).
- Prepare and present project updates, risks, and deliverables to leadership and stakeholders.
- Lead and support User Acceptance Testing (UAT) and training activities.
- Serve as the bridge between business sponsors, technical teams, and external vendors.
- Assist in governance, quality assurance, and ensuring compliance with GoA policies and standards.
What you bring
- 8+ years of experience as a Business Analyst in IT environments, with at least 5 years at a senior level.
- Strong background in requirements gathering, process re-engineering, and solution documentation.
- Hands-on experience with incident management systems, release management, and Agile/Scrum delivery.
- Familiarity with application maintenance and enhancements in enterprise/government settings.
- Technical fluency with XML, UML, databases, and n-tier environments.
- Experience bridging communication between technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Excellent facilitation, communication, and presentation skills.
- Eligible to work in Canada and available to attend onsite meetings in Edmonton when required.
Security & Compliance
- Criminal Record Check required prior to start.
- Enhanced Security Clearance required (coordinated by the Province).
- Completion of mandatory GoA training (FOIP, Security Awareness, etc.).
Contract & Hours
- Hours/week: ~36.25 (7.25/day), standard business hours (08:15–16:30).
- Timesheets: Monthly.
- Term: Full-time 1 year engagement with potential for renewal, estimated 1,805 hours.
- Work model: Remote-first within Alberta; onsite meetings up to 3–4/month for strategic or technical discussions.
