Inspector/Shipper-Receiver

Position Overview:
We are seeking a meticulous and experienced Inspector for our Carbon Steel Plate processing operations. The ideal candidate will be responsible for ensuring the quality and compliance of incoming, in-process and all final products before they are shipped to our customers. This role requires a keen eye for detail, strong organizational skills, and a thorough understanding of carbon steel grades and specifications.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Inspect profile cut parts for dimensional accuracy, surface finish, and material integrity.
  2. Use precision measuring tools including calipers, micrometers, gauges, and tape measures.
  3. Interpret and validate parts against engineering drawings, blueprints, and cutting plans.
  4. Confirm material specifications such as grade, thickness, and heat numbers.
  5. Conduct inspections for incoming raw materials, in-process components, and final products.
  6. Identify and report non-conformances, supporting root cause analysis and corrective actions.
  7. Maintain accurate inspection records and generate quality reports.
  8. Collaborate with production and engineering to resolve quality issues.
  9. Operate overhead cranes and towmotors to safely move parts as required.
  10. Ensure compliance with safety protocols and quality management standards (e.g., ISO 9001).
Required Knowledge and Skills
  1. Knowledge of carbon steel grades and metallurgical properties.
  2. Understanding of flame cutting, plasma cutting, and laser cutting technologies.
  3. Proficient in reading engineering drawings and applying GD&T principles.
  4. Skilled in using inspection equipment such as calipers, micrometers, and gauges; CMM experience is an asset.
  5. Familiarity with welding and fabrication processes (preferred).
  6. Working knowledge of ISO 9001 or similar quality standards.
  7. Attention to detail, strong analytical thinking, and solid documentation abilities.
  8. Basic computer skills for data entry and quality reporting.
  9. Experience with material handling, shipping/receiving, and verification processes.
  10. Background in a steel handling or metal fabrication environment.
Qualifications
  1. High school diploma or equivalent required.
  2. Technical diploma in manufacturing, mechanical, or metallurgical fields preferred.
  3. Minimum 2 years of experience in quality inspection or metal part inspection.
  4. Certification in quality inspection (e.g., ASQ Certified Quality Inspector – CQI) is an asset.
