Estimator – Curtain Wall & Glazing
Position Overview
- Precision and cost efficiency are central to successful project planning.
- The Estimator plays a critical role in determining accurate costs for materials, labor, and timelines.
- This role requires a detail-oriented professional capable of analyzing project specifications, collaborating with stakeholders, and providing reliable cost assessments.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare detailed and accurate cost estimates for glazing and curtain wall projects by analyzing plans, specifications, and drawings.
- Collaborate with architects, engineers, contractors, and suppliers to gather information and clarify requirements.
- Review documentation to fully understand the project scope and identify risks or discrepancies.
- Assess material and labor requirements to recommend the most cost-effective solutions.
- Develop and submit detailed proposals including estimates, schedules, and pricing.
- Identify and account for risks such as scope changes, material cost fluctuations, or schedule delays.
- Maintain organized records of estimates, revisions, and communications.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for clients and vendors during the estimation process.
- Analyze project costs post-award to compare against estimates and identify improvement opportunities.
- Stay informed on market trends, material prices, and labor rates.
- Collaborate with project managers to align estimates with actual project execution.
Primary Tasks
- Review project plans, blueprints, and technical specifications.
- Prepare cost breakdowns for materials, labor, and equipment.
- Request quotes and pricing from suppliers and subcontractors.
- Identify and resolve discrepancies in project documents.
- Ensure estimates cover all phases of the project life cycle.
- Update estimates as project details evolve.
- Submit clear, organized, and timely bid proposals.
- Provide cost analysis and project reporting to stakeholders.
Qualifications
- Diploma or degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, Quantity Surveying, or a related field.
- Additional training or certification in cost estimating, project management, or building envelope systems is an asset.
- Minimum 3–5 years of experience in cost estimating, preferably within the glazing, curtain wall, or building envelope industry.
