Job Overview
We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Garden Maintenance Lead to oversee the ongoing care and maintenance of residential and commercial gardens throughout the HRM. In this role, you will lead a small crew, ensure gardens are maintained to a high standard, and support the landscape construction team by completing final landscaping details and garden installations.
This position is ideal for someone who enjoys hands-on work, takes pride in plant health and presentation, and is comfortable leading a crew in a physically demanding outdoor environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and perform regular garden maintenance for client properties across the HRM
- Direct and manage a small maintenance crew on daily tasks
- Apply proper techniques for plant care, pruning, weeding, mulching, and general upkeep
- Read and interpret garden areas from site and landscape plans
- Complete spring and fall clean-ups with your crew
- Assist landscape construction teams with garden installations and final project touch-ups
- Ensure job sites are clean, safe, and meet quality standards
- Work long, physical hours as required by seasonal demands
Qualifications & Requirements
- Minimum 6 months to 1 year of experience in a similar garden maintenance or landscaping role
- Valid driver’s license with at least 3 years of non-commercial driving experience and a clean abstract
- Experience leading or directing a small crew
- Strong knowledge of garden maintenance techniques and plant care
- Ability to bend, kneel, and lift up to 50 lbs.
- Hard-working, dependable, and detail-oriented
- Ability to report daily to the office (not on a bus route); workday typically starts at 7:00 a.m. sharp
- Willing and able to work long, physically demanding hours
- Prior landscaping experience is considered an asset
Education
- No formal education required
- College diploma or B.Sc. in Horticulture or Agriculture considered an asset
