ROLE CNC LATHE OPERATOR
World-class precision manufacturer of metal components and sub-assemblies utilizing advanced metal cutting, machining, welding, assembly, and fabrication processes. We are currently seeking a CNC Machinist – Lathe Setup / Operator (Day Shift) to join our manufacturing team. This role is primarily responsible for setting up and running small-lot production jobs on a Haas SL-20 CNC lathe, ensuring parts are produced safely, efficiently, and to specification.
Responsibilities
• Set up and operate CNC lathe equipment, primarily Haas SL-20, for small-batch production runs
• Create and/or load CNC programs, set tooling and offsets, and prove out jobs prior to production
• Perform minor CNC program edits and adjustments at the machine, as required
• Ensure parts are produced to print, meeting all dimensional and quality requirements
• Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, tolerances, and work orders
• Perform in-process inspections using standard measuring tools (calipers, micrometers, gauges, etc.)
• Follow and comply with all ISO 9001:2015 manufacturing and quality standards, as well as customer and regulatory requirements
• Work collaboratively with Engineering, Quality, and Supervision to resolve setup, machining, or quality issues
• Utilize the ERP system for daily production and job tracking activities
• Follow all health and safety requirements, including the use of appropriate PPE
• Perform basic machine maintenance, routine checks, and housekeeping as required
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area at all times
• Perform other duties as assigned

Education & Qualifications
• Proven experience setting up and operating CNC lathes (Haas experience is an asset)
• Minimum 3 years CNC lathe setup / operation experience (preferred)
• Minimum 3 years machining experience in a manufacturing environment (preferred)
• Strong understanding of machining fundamentals, tooling, and workholding
• Working knowledge of CNC programs, offsets, and setup procedures
• Ability to accurately read and interpret blueprints and tolerances
• CNC programming and Mastercam experience considered a strong asset
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Good communication and problem-solving skills
• Written and oral communication in English (required)
• Physically capable of performing job duties including lifting up to 50 lbs
• Ability to work safely in a manufacturing environment with moving mechanical parts, noise, and standard shop conditions
• Mandatory use of safety equipment, including safety glasses and metatarsal guard safety shoes
