Assistant Junior Plant Controller – Brampton, Ontario
Position Overview
We are seeking a high-potential manufacturing finance professional to join our team as an Assistant Plant Controller. This role partners closely with the Plant Controller and plant leadership team to drive financial performance, operational efficiency, and strategic decision-making across the facility.
This position provides significant exposure to plant operations, cost accounting, financial planning, and operational improvement initiatives, making it an excellent opportunity for candidates seeking to progress into a Plant Controller role.
The successful candidate will play a key role in translating operational performance into financial insight while helping the plant leadership team improve productivity, control costs, and achieve financial targets.
Key Responsibilities
Manufacturing Finance & Business Partnership
- Partner with plant leadership, operations, and engineering teams to support operational and financial decision-making.
- Provide financial analysis and insights to help drive productivity improvements, cost reductions, and margin performance.
- Act as a trusted finance partner to operations by connecting plant performance metrics to financial results.
Financial Reporting & Performance Analysis
- Support the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual plant financial results.
- Analyze manufacturing performance, including cost variances, production efficiency, labor utilization, and inventory movements.
- Identify key drivers behind variances to budget, forecast, and prior periods, and provide actionable recommendations.
- Assist in preparing management reports and financial presentations for plant leadership and corporate finance.
Cost Accounting & Inventory Management
- Maintain and analyze standard costs, manufacturing variances, and product cost structures.
- Review and monitor inventory valuation, cycle counts, and inventory controls.
- Support continuous improvement of costing accuracy and reporting processes.
- Partner with operations to identify cost savings opportunities across materials, labor, and overhead.
Budgeting, Forecasting & Planning
- Assist in the development of annual budgets, quarterly forecasts, and long-range financial plans.
- Collaborate with operations teams to align production plans with financial expectations.
- Support scenario modeling and financial analysis to support strategic decision-making.
Operational Excellence & Continuous Improvement
- Support plant initiatives aimed at improving operational efficiency, productivity, and waste reduction.
- Participate in cross-functional projects focused on manufacturing performance improvements.
- Track operational and financial KPIs to measure the impact of improvement initiatives.
Systems & Process Optimization
- Utilize ERP and financial reporting tools to support data-driven decision making.
- Help improve financial processes, reporting automation, and internal controls within the plant environment.
- Support alignment between operational planning processes and financial planning.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- 3–6 years of finance or accounting experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Strong knowledge of cost accounting and manufacturing financial analysis.
- Experience working with ERP systems (SAP preferred).
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and financial analysis tools.
- Experience supporting budgeting, forecasting, and operational financial reporting.
