Payroll & Benefits Manager (stand-alone)
Mississauga, ON | Full-Time | Hybrid (2 days in office)| $85,000–$90,000
On behalf of our client, a well-established organization in the GTA, we are seeking an experienced Payroll & Benefits Manager to take full ownership of payroll operations.
This is a hands-on, standalone role ideal for a payroll professional who manages the complete payroll cycle independently and takes pride in compliance, accuracy, and governance. This is not a people leadership position — it is a technical, subject matter expert role.
What You’ll Be Responsible For
End-to-End Payroll (Primary Focus)
- Manage full-cycle payroll processing for all employee groups
- Ensure compliance with CRA regulations, CPP, EI, EHT, WSIB, and Ontario legislation
- Oversee remittances, statutory deductions, and year-end processes (T4s, T4As, ROEs)
- Review complex payroll calculations including retro pay, taxable benefits, overtime, and garnishments
- Reconcile payroll to the general ledger in partnership with Finance
- Maintain internal controls and support audit readiness
- Monitor legislative changes and implement required updates
Payroll Systems Ownership
- Act as system owner for Dayforce/Ceridian
- Ensure data integrity between payroll, HRIS, and time & attendance
- Identify and implement process improvements
Benefits Administration (Approx. 20–25%)
- Administer health, dental, life, disability, and retirement programs
- Manage enrollments, life events, deductions, and vendor relationships
- Ensure accurate benefit reporting and compliance
What We’re Looking For
- CPM (Certified Payroll Manager) designation – required or pursuit of
- 5+ years of Ontario payroll experience with direct compliance accountability
- Strong working knowledge of CRA requirements and provincial payroll legislation
- Experience supporting payroll audits and maintaining strong controls
- Hands-on experience with enterprise payroll systems (Dayforce preferred)
- High attention to detail and strong ownership mindset
