Senior Building Automation Technician – Project Specialist (Commissioning)

Role Overview
The Senior Building Automation Technician – Project Solutions Specialist is a senior‑level field role responsible for leading technical solutions, commissioning activities, and system integration on large, complex new‑construction projects. This position serves as a trusted expert for clients, construction partners, and internal teams, providing advanced problem‑solving, hands‑on commissioning, and mentorship to junior staff.

Key Responsibilities
- Lead and execute a portfolio of major BAS commissioning projects.
- Perform on-site commissioning, functional testing, troubleshooting, and cost management.
- Collaborate with contractors, consultants, mechanical/electrical trades, and client representatives.
- Review control drawings, submittals, and sequences of operation.
- Develop field-controller programs, build front‑end databases, and create/modify system graphics.
- Conduct point‑to‑point testing, equipment commissioning, and integration with HVAC/mechanical systems.
- Execute 3rd‑party system integrations (BACnet, Modbus, LonWorks, etc.).
- Diagnose software and hardware issues in the field.
- Prepare commissioning documentation, site reports, and as‑built updates.
- Resolve project deficiencies and support successful project close‑out.
- Deliver end‑user training and communicate project status to internal teams.
Experience & Qualifications
- College Diploma in Electromechanical Engineering Technology or a related field.
- 8–15 years of BAS commissioning, integration, and field experience on commercial, institutional, or multi‑residential projects.
- Strong knowledge of HVAC systems, control strategies, and BAS platforms.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, Visio).
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously in a fast‑paced environment.
- Strong communication, client‑facing, and coordination skills.
- Self‑motivated, adaptable, and effective both independently and within a team.
- Experience with one or more of the following BAS programming tools is an asset:
- Niagara Workbench
- EcoStruxure
- FIN Stack / FinBuilder
- Honeywell Spyder Tools
- Johnson Controls PCT
- Distech GFX
- Familiarity with:
- Building automation systems
- IP networking and low‑voltage controls
- Mechanical/HVAC systems
- Electromechanical and pneumatic controls
