What are the Responsibilities?
As Senior Project Manager, you will lead utilities construction projects from concept through closeout, with a strong emphasis on electrical scope, safety, cost control, and stakeholder alignment.
- Lead assigned projects to achieve schedule, cost, quality, safety, and contractual performance targets
- Define project objectives, execution strategies, and performance standards aligned with contract and company requirements
- Build and maintain strong working relationships with clients, consultants, subcontractors, suppliers, and internal teams
- Develop, manage, and maintain detailed construction schedules and milestones
- Monitor and forecast project progress, labour productivity, costs, and margins
- Ensure strict compliance with HSE standards, regulatory requirements, and contractual obligations
- Prepare project estimates, manage scope changes, and negotiate variations
- Draft, administer, and manage contracts, including revisions and change orders
- Complete monthly cost forecasts, productivity reports, WIP reviews, and project documentation
- Identify project risks early and implement mitigation strategies
- Coordinate materials, equipment, and workforce resources to ensure efficient execution
- Support commissioning, integration, and QA/QC processes on electrical utility projects
What are the Requirements?
Must be a proven utilities construction leader with deep electrical project expertise and the confidence to manage complex projects from concept to completion.
- Degree or Diploma in:
- Construction Project Management
- Electrical Engineering
- Civil Engineering
- Red Seal Electrical Journeyman Certification
- 10+ years as a Project Manager with a construction contractor
- 8–10+ years in utilities and/or civil construction with direct experience delivering large‑scale electrical projects
- Demonstrable background in:
- Estimation and strategic procurement
- Contract negotiation and change management
- Commissioning and QA/QC application
- Experience with:
- Medium and high‑voltage utility work
- Roadway lighting, traffic signals, and substations
- P3 and/or design‑build projects (desirable, not mandatory)
- WWTP projects (desirable, not mandatory)
- Bonus Points for candidate presenting:
- P.Eng., PMP, or Gold Seal Certification
- Construction safety certifications
To succeed in this role, you’ll bring a strong balance of technical depth, leadership capability, and execution discipline, including:
- Contract management and proactive risk identification
- Construction planning, scheduling, and execution
- Ability to interpret complex engineering drawings and specifications
- Knowledge of local and provincial labour codes
- Strong organizational, time management, and cross‑functional collaboration skills
- Demonstrated leadership and decision‑making abilities
- Technical proficiency with:
- MS Office Suite
- Microsoft Project (required)
- JD Edwards or Oracle‑based ERP systems
- Procore Construction Management Software
Additional Requirements
- Willingness and ability to travel to project sites across British Columbia (Lower Mainland, Vancouver Island, Interior)
- Valid BC Driver’s License and ability to operate a vehicle
- Must be willing to undergo a criminal background check as a condition of hire.
