As an Estimator, you will:

What You’ll Do
As an Electrical Estimator, you will lead the development of accurate, competitive, and strategic estimates for utility infrastructure projects, while supporting execution teams with technical insight and commercial clarity. While there is no sales or business development requirement on paper, we are particularly interested in meeting estimators with strong networks & the confidence/desire to work those in support of uncovering new business and/or increasing project loads with existing customers.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare detailed electrical take-offs and estimates for utility projects, including materials, labour, equipment, and indirect costs
- Develop estimates based on contract documents, bids, quotations, schematic drawings, and specifications
- Review project plans and specifications to confirm complete scope coverage
- Prepare conceptual and preliminary budgets with limited information
- Manage estimating efforts across project types, from Bid‑Build to Design‑Build
- Analyze alternative means and methods to identify the most cost‑effective solutions
- Identify risk exposures, quantify order‑of‑magnitude impacts, and support mitigation strategies
- Coordinate technical proposal requirements in collaboration with Marketing
- Review and scope specialty contractor and supplier bids
- Establish and maintain tendering processes, cost monitoring, and reporting systems
- Advise on tendering procedures, analyze submissions, recommend awards, and support negotiations
- Coordinate pricing packages with suppliers, subcontractors, designers, and owners
- Participate in site reviews, tender reviews, hand‑off meetings, and project close‑out
- Maintain and update a directory of suppliers, contractors, and subcontractors
- Liaise with engineers, architects, owners, and contractors on scope changes and cost adjustments
- Prepare economic feasibility studies for changes and project alternatives
- Lead, coach, and mentor junior estimators
- Support material and equipment purchasing for secured key projects
- Maintain estimating databases (Bid2Win / Accubid)
- Actively participate in industry, client, and community engagement to strengthen company presence
- Perform other related duties as required
What are the Requirements?
We’re looking for a seasoned electrical estimator with strong utility infrastructure experience and a collaborative, solutions‑driven mindset.
- Degree, Diploma, or Trade Ticket in one of the following:
- Construction Engineering Technology
- Construction Management
- Electrical Engineering
- Electrical Trade Certification (Red Seal)
- 10+ years of estimating experience in utility construction
- Strong preference for electrical utility estimating experience
- Experience with underground and/or overhead utilities considered a strong asset
- Excellent analytical and problem‑solving skills
- Ability to manage multiple estimates and deadlines simultaneously
- Strong stakeholder communication and relationship‑building skills
- Change awareness and adaptability in fast‑moving bid environments
- Commitment to continuous learning and improvement MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, Project)
- Experience with Accubid and/or Bid2Win estimating software
