We are currently seeking an experienced Controller to join their growing Canadian operations. This role offers the opportunity to play a key leadership part within a global organization while overseeing the finance and accounting functions across multiple business units.
The Controller will report directly to the VP of Finance (U.S.-based) and act as a trusted financial advisor to the regional leadership team, ensuring strong financial controls, accurate reporting, and strategic financial planning.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and Develop the Finance Team: Manage and mentor team members across Billing, AR, AP, Payroll, and General Ledger functions to ensure accuracy and efficiency.
- Financial Planning & Analysis: Oversee budgeting, forecasting, and financial modeling to provide actionable insights and drive operational performance.
- Month-End and Year-End Close: Ensure timely and accurate completion of all financial statements, including balance sheets, income, and cash flow statements.
- Compliance & Internal Controls: Maintain strong internal controls and ensure compliance with GAAP, IFRS, tax laws, and other regulatory requirements.
- Financial Reporting: Prepare and present financial results to regional and global leadership, highlighting trends, risks, and opportunities.
- Strategic Partnership: Collaborate with senior leaders to provide financial insights that support growth strategies, cost control, and investment decisions.
- Audit & Tax Coordination: Manage external audits, liaise with auditors, and oversee all tax-related matters.
- Working Capital & Treasury: Monitor key metrics (DSO, DPO, cash flow) and ensure optimal treasury management.
- Process Improvement: Drive automation and ERP optimization initiatives to streamline financial workflows.
Qualifications
- CPA designation (CA, CMA, CGA) or equivalent required.
- Minimum 10 years of progressive experience in accounting or finance, including 5+ years in a leadership role.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP, IFRS, and internal control frameworks.
- Proven experience managing regional or multi-site financial operations.
- Proficiency with ERP systems (JDE, SAP, or similar) and financial reporting tools (Power BI, advanced Excel).
- Excellent communication, leadership, and change management skills.
- Ability to manage competing priorities and thrive in a dynamic environment.
- Willingness to travel approximately 50%.
