Position: Legal Assistant – Financial Services / Indigenous & Litigation Focus
Location: Downtown Toronto (Hybrid: 3 days in-office, 2 days remote)
Employment Type: Full-Time, Permanent
Salary: $70,000 – $80,000
Hours: 35 hours/week, 9:00 am – 5:00 pm

About the Role:
We are seeking an experienced Legal Assistant to support a busy Financial Services and Indigenous/Litigation practice group. This role reports to two partners and one associate and involves managing the day-to-day operations of the team. The ideal candidate is highly organized, proactive, and capable of handling multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. Exposure to Aboriginal/Indigenous law is an asset, but candidates with a strong litigation background are also encouraged to apply.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Independently manage the daily operations of a small legal team
  • Prepare, edit, and organize legal documents, including litigation materials, motion records, affidavits, and court filings for Ontario, Alberta, Federal, and Supreme Court matters
  • Assist with transactions, signature packages, wire confirmations, and record management
  • Prepare documents for Regulatory Boards and Tribunals
  • Manage calendars, coordinate client meetings, and handle travel arrangements
  • Maintain client files, conduct conflict checks, and assist with accounting tasks such as billing and invoices
  • Communicate professionally with internal teams, external clients, and court staff
  • Ensure accuracy, quality, and confidentiality in all work
  • Take initiative and accountability for assigned tasks
Qualifications:
  • Minimum 5 years of experience as a Legal Assistant in litigation
  • Completion of a post-secondary Legal Assistant or Law Clerk program
  • Strong knowledge of the Ontario Rules of Civil Procedure
  • Familiarity with procedures in Regulatory Bodies, Ontario and Alberta courts, Federal Court of Canada, and Supreme Court of Canada
  • Experience or knowledge of Aboriginal/Indigenous law considered an asset
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities under tight deadlines
Skills & Competencies:
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office 365
  • Document creation, formatting, numbering, and organization
  • Experience with DocuSign and digital closing folders
  • Strong judgment, decision-making, and attention to detail
  • Highly organized, resourceful, and proactive
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
