Senior Aquatic Biologist / Project Manager

Summary
As a Senior Aquatic Biologist, you will have the opportunity to provide technical leadership and guidance on key aquatic biology projects in Alberta supporting natural resources, oil & gas, mining, construction and municipal infrastructure projects, as well as coordinating, mentoring, and supporting a highly established team of biologists. Based out of Edmonton, this will be a full-time position. You’ll have the opportunity to work as part of multi-disciplinary project teams guiding aquatic environmental planning and permitting efforts for key projects. In this position you will establish and maintain relationships with clients, regulators, and sub-contractors, and provide insight into business development. This is a science-based role, and the successful candidate will have a reputation in the industry as a technical expert within aquatic biology and will have an excellent understanding of the municipal approvals process in Alberta and a passion for developing and supporting key client relationships.
KEY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Planning, organizing, and managing a diverse array of projects, programs, people, and tasks, that are mostly related to aquatic biology
  • Provide technical leadership on the aquatic biology components of our projects
  • Provide an understanding of environmental Best Management Practices and advise clients accordingly.
  • Understanding and managing project revenue
  • Liaising and negotiating with other partners, clients, regulators, contractors, and sub-contractors
  • Writing high-quality reports, cost estimates, and proposals
  • Creating project status reports and maintaining project documentation
  • Manage tasks and projects according to approved scopes of works and deliver quality reports on schedule.
  • Leading technical teams to ensure the quality, cost, and timeliness of deliverables
  • Providing mentorship and training for our environmental professional team
  • Providing excellent service to existing clients and maintaining those relationships
  • Supporting corporate business development initiatives
  • Ensuring clients’ and Triton’s safety standards are maintained or exceeded
  • Working collaboratively within Triton’s corporate culture
EXPERIENCE / QUALIFICATIONS
  • B.Sc. or M.Sc. in biology, environmental science, or related field
  • P.Biol. designation or equivalent designation
  • Minimum 10-15 years of experience within environmental consulting with a focus on Aquatic Biology within western Canada
  • Previous experience working in an environmental consulting firm and/or experience working as an aquatic biologist supporting multiple project sectors
  • Experience with project management, leading projects, as well as leading project teams (i.e., budgeting, project tracking, cost-accounting and scope control)
  • Technical knowledge in aquatics and fisheries biology
  • Ideally have some experience with relevant aquatic field work, environmental monitoring and/or environmental inspection
  • Knowledge of and experience with provincial and federal environmental standards, regulations or guidelines, including having a understanding of the Federal Fisheries Act
  • Business development acumen (e.g., client relationships, strategic planning, proposal writing)
  • A quick learner, easily adaptable to new software applications, systems, and business processes
  • Effective writing skills and able to produce meaningful reports and proposals
  • Excellent organizational skills, able to take initiative and drive results, effective problem solver, and able to think outside the box when required
  • Ability to work within a team setting, having a collaborative working style, and able to build and cultivate strong working relationships
  • Valid driver's licence from a Canadian province or territory acceptable for driving alone and with passengers in a work setting
