Project Engineer – Mechanical (HVAC Focus)

A dynamic and well-established engineering firm is seeking a highly skilled Project Engineer to join its growing Mechanical Group. This opportunity is ideal for an experienced mechanical design professional who thrives in a collaborative environment and is passionate about delivering high-impact HVAC and plumbing solutions across a diverse range of projects—from industrial facilities and commercial buildings to transportation infrastructure and water/wastewater systems.
About the Role
As a Project Engineer, you will lead the design and execution of mechanical systems, focusing primarily on HVAC and plumbing. You will play a key role in all project phases—from field investigations and technical design to construction administration and commissioning. This is a client-facing role that requires strong communication, leadership, and mentorship abilities. You’ll also be involved in proposal development and business growth initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
  • Design and prepare HVAC and plumbing systems, specifications, and technical drawings
  • Conduct field surveys and oversee system installation, testing, and commissioning
  • Ensure systems meet all regulatory and sustainability standards
  • Coordinate designs with other engineering disciplines and stakeholders
  • Manage project timelines, budgets, and resources
  • Troubleshoot design or performance issues during construction and post-installation
  • Prepare technical reports and support documentation
  • Mentor junior team members and provide technical guidance
  • Contribute to proposal writing and business development efforts
  • Participate in multidisciplinary project teams
Qualifications
  • Licensed Professional Engineer in Ontario (P.Eng.)
  • Minimum 7 years of mechanical (HVAC) design experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field
  • Proficiency in HVAC design software and CAD tools
  • In-depth knowledge of current industry codes, standards, and best practices
  • Familiarity with municipal and provincial regulatory processes
  • Excellent project management, communication, and organizational skills
  • Strong technical and proposal writing abilities
