Position: Designer, Municipal
Location: Burlington, Kitchener, or London, Ontario
We are currently seeking a Municipal Designer to join the team in Burlington, Kitchener, or London. The successful candidate will be responsible for the design and coordination of municipal infrastructure projects, including roads, watermains, sanitary and storm sewers, and related civil infrastructure.
Responsibilities:
  • Prepare plan and profile drawings of municipal infrastructure using OpenRoads and Civil 3D software.
  • Develop municipal corridor designs, including centre line alignments and functional roadway layouts.
  • Design watermain, sanitary, and storm sewer alignments.
  • Complete design calculations and assessments for water distribution and wastewater systems.
  • Prepare designs for stormwater management facilities, including water balance impact assessments.
  • Conduct hydraulic modeling of watercourses (creeks/rivers), including floodplain mapping.
  • Draft technical reports, design briefs, and memos.
  • Coordinate with municipal staff, contractors, suppliers, and the public as required.
  • Attend and contribute to project team meetings, ensuring timely and efficient delivery of project milestones.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) or Certified Engineering Technologist (C.E.T.) designation.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience with municipal development and infrastructure projects.
  • Proficiency in OpenRoads and MicroStation is required.
  • Experience with Civil 3D and AutoCAD.
  • Strong understanding of underground servicing and municipal road design principles.
  • Familiarity with engineering codes, design standards, and approval processes.
  • Proven technical report writing and communication skills.
  • Strong organizational, problem-solving, and time management abilities.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Word, Excel).
  • Experience with design software such as HEC-2/HEC-RAS, GAWSER, MIDUSS, OTTHYMO, and XP-SWMM.
  • Knowledge of water resources engineering and stormwater management practices.
  • Experience with trenchless technologies and permitting processes considered an asset.
  • Background in servicing, grading, and drainage design, as well as road and bridge projects, is preferred.
