Our company is a leader in the food manufacturing industry, with headquarters in Calgary and branches in Richmond, Edmonton, and Victoria, BC. We prefer our candidate to live in Calgary, where you’ll report to the Director of Sales and Marketing and work within a close-knit team of five.

Your Responsibilities:

  • Continuously learn and develop knowledge on protein markets and trends.
  • Monitor and analyze protein markets and economic trends to inform purchasing decisions and mitigate risks related to price volatility and supply chain disruptions.
  • Develop and execute a proactive communication plan for market information related to commodities for stakeholders including business unit buyers.
  • Execute weekly procurement and management of raw materials (i.e., beef) for food production.
  • Manage core layaway programs.
  • Develop and execute buying programs for multiple proteins (beef, pork, poultry, etc.).
  • Manage commodity opportunity buys for multiple proteins.
  • Source and negotiate annual contracted key items.
  • Manage company commodity inventory levels to ensure they meet production requirements.
  • Ensure company commodity inventory levels are in line with financial forecasts.
  • Build relationships with multiple suppliers to source the best quality and pricing.
  • Procure special order items as directed.
  • Source opportunity purchases/new items and present to business units.
  • Lead regularly scheduled buyer meetings.
  • Advise and coordinate with stakeholders to ensure inventory levels are optimized for business needs.
  • Travel as required to business units and meetings.
  • Additional duties as required.

Qualifications as a Senior Procurement Specialist/ Manager:

  • 5+ years of experience in food Purchasing/Procurement
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Supply Chain Management, Food Science, or a related field.
  • Strong experience with purchasing high volumes of beef, poultry, pork, and other meats.
  • In-depth knowledge of protein markets (beef, poultry, and pork products), macroeconomic factors, and their impact on supply chain operations.
  • Strong negotiation skills.
  • Understanding of regulatory requirements and food safety standards (CFIA, HACCP, GMP, etc.).
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
  • Strong network of supplier contacts in the protein industry preferred.
  • Ability to pass criminal and credit checks.
  • Ability to travel.
