Environmental Project Manager, Remediation & Reclamation – Upstream Oil & Gas

The Opportunity
Key Responsibilities
The Environmental Scientist / Project Manager – Upstream Oil & Gas projects, will lead and manage projects focused on the reclamation and remediation of sites impacted by upstream oil and gas activities and other large industrial projects. This role involves planning, executing, and overseeing projects to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, industry standards, and company policies. The Project Manager will work closely with clients, regulatory bodies, and internal teams to deliver high-quality environmental solutions.
The job involves execution of projects related to environmental compliance, assessment, remediation and reclamation, and other environmental applications. The work includes the following:
- As Project Manager, lead and execute Phase I and II environmental site assessments and remediation and reclamation projects from conception to completion
- Sets and maintains project schedules and budgets, including project financial forecasting; makes decisions with respect to overall technical execution of the project; liaise with technical specialists or other environmental project managers to ensure the technical integrity of the project.
- Providing technical expertise for reclamation and Upstream closure programs you will interpret findings and prepare and/or review technical reports, including interpreting analytical data to identify trends, significant changes from historical patterns, deviations, or evidence of environmental stresses, etc.
- Developing work plans for Phase I and II environmental site assessments and remediation projects.
- Planning and executing Phase I and II environmental site assessment programs.
- Lead field remediation programs, including supervising field drilling programs, well installation, and water quality sampling.
- Compiling and interpreting complex assessment data, conduct data gap analyses, and prepare conceptual site models.
- Developing site specific guidelines, risk assessments and risk and/or remedial action plans.
- Working with senior staff to develop risk-based strategies to manage complex contaminated sites.
- Planning and executing complex remediation projects including in-situ and ex-situ remediation.
- Compiling field notes and preparing report-ready graphs, figures, and tables.
- Proposal and report writing.
- Supervises and mentors junior professional staff involved in carrying out field programs, ensuring project requirements are communicated and health and safety protocols are adhered to while actively promoting Health and Safety programs and culture.
- Managing client relationships, attending client meetings and client development
Experience / Qualifications
The successful candidate must have a university degree and be a critical thinker with highly developed problem-solving skills. We are seeking specific qualifications as follows:
- Graduate or undergraduate degree in environmental sciences, hydrogeology, geology, geological engineering, engineering geology, environmental engineering, or related discipline.
- Possesses environmental professional designation or eligible for registration with APEGA, AIA, or ASPB (e.g. P.Geo, P.Eng etc)
- Minimum 6-12 years of experience working in environmental consulting and/or contaminated site reclamation and remediation
- At least 3+ years of progressive experience encompassing project planning, coordinating and project management with strong emphasis in reclamation.
- Strong expertise with project management aspects such as developing scopes of works, estimates, scheduling, reports and running field reclamation programs independently
- Passion for mentoring and coaching field reclamation teams
- Minimum 4-5 years of previous technical field based environmental reclamation field experience with a desire to continue working on projects as needed in the field
- Desire to work on a variety of projects within the heavy industrial sectors
- Excellent communicator, both verbally and written and a team player.
- Strong work ethic with well-developed organizational and time management skills.
- Experience with drilling techniques, installation of monitoring wells and soil and groundwater sampling procedures.
- Experience with environmental site assessments and remediation.
- Experience using water level meters, data loggers, EC meters, etc. to gather hydrogeological and environmental data.
- Experience designing and implementing slug testing programs.
- Practical experience or course work in data management utilizing tools such as Excel, MS Access, and QGIS.
- Possesses professional designation or eligible for registration with APEGA, AIA, or ASPB.
- Applicants must have legal authorization to work in Canada with no restrictions.
- Preference will be given to candidates with professional accreditation in Alberta, British-Columbia, or Saskatchewan.
