Job Title- Quality Assurance and Health & Safety Manager

Location- North York, ON

About the Job

The Quality Assurance and Health & Safety (QEHS) Manager will report to the General Manager and oversee the maintenance of the quality management system (ISO 9001), as well as the environmental and health & safety policies, procedures, and programs. The QEHS Manager will work closely with both management and employees to maintain a safe and healthy work environment while ensuring the highest quality standards for the company’s products and services. This role will be critical in driving continuous improvement and compliance with all applicable regulatory requirements.

Key Responsibilities

Quality

  • Investigate customer complaints and respond promptly.
  • Provide input to R&D for potential new product launches.
  • Develop quality processes and procedures for each product classification.
  • Conduct quality audits, inspections, and testing of products.
  • Implement corrective and preventive action processes.
  • Analyze data from WIP tickets to identify quality issues (e.g., scrap percentages).
  • Check raw material quality as required.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for regulatory compliance (USMCA).
  • Prepare reports and summaries related to the quality management system.
  • Support ISO 9001 Quality system implementation, including audits and employee training.

Health & Safety

  • Co-chair the Joint Health & Safety Committee.
  • Oversee incident reporting and liaise with WSIB and MOL.
  • Organize required training and prepare emergency preparedness programs (fire drills, spill drills, etc.).
  • Lead the staff in personal protective equipment (PPE) and safety-related issues.
  • Ensure environmental and health & safety standards are met across all areas of the plant.
  • Monitor and maintain safety compliance within the facility and office areas.
  • Manage WSIB claims and return-to-work programs.

Environmental

  • Assess and implement changes based on new environmental legislation.
  • Work with departments to address environmental concerns and ensure legal compliance.
  • Ensure Safety Data Sheets (SDS) are up-to-date.
  • Collaborate with the Purchasing team to ensure new products comply with environmental standards.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Perform minimal office administrative functions.
  • Calculate weekly production staff bonuses.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by management.

Qualifications & Experience

  • College diploma, degree, or certificate.
  • 3-5 years of supervisory experience in Quality Control/Assurance.
  • In-depth knowledge of ISO 9001:2015 Quality standards.
  • Experience in the office furniture manufacturing industry is a plus.
  • Strong communication, analytical, project management, and problem-solving skills.
  • First Aid/CPR certified (asset).
  • Certified Joint Health & Safety Committee member through MOL (asset).
  • Certified Lead or Internal Auditor (asset).
