Mechanical Production Technician

🕒 Afternoon Shift: 2:00pm – 10:30pm

A growing industrial processing facility in Waterdown is seeking a Mechanical Production Technician to support production equipment reliability and product quality in a continuous manufacturing environment.

This role is best suited for a mechanically inclined technician who enjoys diagnosing equipment issues, performing preventative maintenance, and supporting production operations. The facility processes recyclable materials using mechanical and automated equipment, and technicians play a key role in keeping systems running safely and efficiently.

Because the operation is still evolving, this role is ideal for someone who is hands-on, adaptable, and comfortable troubleshooting equipment in a dynamic production environment.

Key Responsibilities
Equipment Operation & Troubleshooting
  • Operate and monitor continuous-flow production equipment
  • Identify process or product inconsistencies and make adjustments as required
  • Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and control-related issues affecting production
  • Safely clear blockages or jams in processing equipment (conveyors, mills, etc.)
  • Adjust equipment settings through PLC/HMI systems when required
Maintenance & Equipment Support
  • Perform preventative maintenance inspections and services
  • Conduct wear-part replacement and screen maintenance
  • Support mechanical repairs and troubleshooting activities
  • Assist with diagnosing equipment failures and implementing corrective actions
  • Work alongside maintenance technicians on larger repairs when required
Quality Monitoring
  • Sample and analyze finished product according to quality procedures
  • Use testing tools and chemical analysis where required
  • Maintain accurate production and testing documentation
Production Support
  • Load and unload materials and finished product
  • Operate forklifts, loaders, and scissor lifts when required
  • Perform physically active tasks including shoveling and working at heights
  • Follow all safety procedures including lockout/tagout
Equipment & Production Environment
Technicians work with a range of industrial equipment including:
  • Conveyors
  • Ball mills
  • Pulverizers
  • Automated material processing systems
Because the facility processes public recyclables, equipment can occasionally experience material jams or blockages, requiring safe shutdown and mechanical troubleshooting.
Technicians must be comfortable identifying issues quickly and restoring production safely.
Qualifications
  • Technical diploma or related manufacturing experience, or equivalent hands-on mechanical experience
  • Strong mechanical troubleshooting skills
  • Experience supporting production equipment in manufacturing or industrial environments
  • Ability to identify process issues and correct them efficiently
  • Experience with quality testing, QA tools, or chemical analysis is an asset
  • Basic electrical knowledge
  • Experience working with PLC or HMI systems for troubleshooting or adjustments
  • Mechanical Red Seal training is preferred
  • Basic welding or fabrication knowledge is an asset
  • Previous experience operating forklifts, loaders, or scissor lifts is preferred

Compensation & Benefits
  • $27-$30/hr
  • $2.00/hour afternoon shift premium
