About the Company
A privately held real estate investment and management firm with a diverse portfolio of commercial and residential properties across Québec and Ontario is seeking a Controller to lead its accounting operations. This opportunity is ideal for a seasoned CPA who thrives in entrepreneurial environments and wants to play a key role in the growth of a dynamic organization.
The Role
The Controller will oversee the company’s full accounting cycle, ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial reporting across multiple entities. You will act as a strategic partner to senior leadership, manage relationships with financial institutions, and provide insights that drive business decisions.
You will also lead and develop a team of six professionals, including four Property Accountants, one Accounts Payable Clerk, and one Accounts Receivable Clerk.
Key Responsibilities

Lead the accounting team, providing guidance, coaching, and performance management.

Oversee monthly, quarterly, and year-end reporting for a multi-property portfolio.

Ensure compliance with accounting standards, internal controls, and company procedures.

Coordinate with external auditors, tax advisors, and banking partners.

Analyze financial data and present findings to support business strategy.

Drive the budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow planning processes.

Champion process improvements and system enhancements to support scalability.
Candidate Profile

CPA designation required.

Minimum 5 years of progressive accounting experience, with exposure to real estate, property management, or investment portfolios.

Proven ability to lead and inspire accounting teams.

Strong technical expertise in multi-entity accounting and consolidated reporting.

Professional French and professional English (office operates primarily in English).

Entrepreneurial mindset with the ability to work independently and influence decision-making.
