About the role
We are a growing construction firm seeking a hands-on Controller who also oversees office operations. You will own bookkeeping, reconciliations, job costing, and month-end close while managing an office coordinator and ensuring smooth day-to-day operations. QuickBooks proficiency and construction industry experience are required.
What you’ll do
  • Own full-cycle accounting in QuickBooks
  • Manage AP and AR including vendor setup, purchase orders, approvals, and collections
  • Perform daily cash management and weekly cash forecasting
  • Prepare bank, credit card, and balance sheet reconciliations
  • Maintain job cost tracking, cost codes, change orders, and budgets
  • Produce customer invoicing including AIA progress billings and T&M invoices
  • Oversee compliance items such as lien releases, COIs, W-9s, and subcontract agreements
  • Run payroll and review timesheets; support certified payroll and prevailing wage when applicable
  • Prepare month-end close including journal entries, accruals, WIP schedule, and variance analysis
  • Create monthly financials and KPI dashboards for leadership
  • File city and state sales and use tax, 1099s, and business license renewals
  • Coordinate annual review or compilation with external CPA
  • Manage office operations including supplies, vendor relationships, basic HR onboarding, and records
  • Improve processes, internal controls, and documentation
What you’ll bring
  • 5+ years of accounting experience including construction industry exposure
  • Strong QuickBooks Desktop or Online proficiency
  • Solid understanding of job costing, WIP, AIA billing, and lien waivers
  • Proven ability to perform accurate reconciliations and month-end close
  • Intermediate to advanced Excel skills including pivots and lookups
  • Clear communication and vendor management skills
  • High attention to detail and ability to prioritize in a fast-moving environment
Nice to have
  • Experience with Procore, Buildertrend, Foundation, Sage 100 Contractor, or similar
  • Experience with certified payroll and prevailing wage
  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s in Accounting, Finance, or related field
  • CPA or CMA a plus
