Construction Health & Safety Specialist – 12-month contract – Toronto
We’re looking to hire a highly experienced and professional Construction Health & Safety Specialist for a 12 -month full-time on-site contract supporting our client in the construction of a mission critical building facilities in Toronto (with the potential for extension).
As our client’s on-site safety representative, you’ll collaborate with staff and subcontractors to promote a proactive safety culture that exceeds compliance standards. You’ll ensure safety programs meet regulatory requirements and align with the client’s high expectations.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Design and execute a strategic roadmap for safety deliverables, including timelines and frequency.
  • Lead and manage all safety-related project deliverables to ensure compliance and effectiveness.
  • Train and coach project teams on client-specific reporting protocols for incidents and worker hours.
  • Establish and reinforce clear safety communication practices across all project stakeholders.
  • Conduct regular site safety walks to identify and address potential hazards.
  • Engage actively in site meetings (OAC, GC orientations, foreman meetings, safety briefings) to represent safety priorities.
  • Drive and support the implementation of safety initiatives that align with project goals and client standards
Key Job Focus:

  • Engage actively in site meetings (OAC, GC orientations, foreman meetings, safety briefings) to represent safety priorities.
  • Drive and support the implementation of safety initiatives that align with project goals and client standards.
Key Experience / Qualifications:
  • 5–10 years of EH&S experience in construction including a Certification (CRSP, CSO, NCSO, GSC-CSC, CSP, CIH, etc).
  • Extensive experience with supervising and monitoring safety standard onsite for large, complex ICI building construction projects
  • Expertise in high-risk activities: electrical safety, confined space, fall protection, and materials handling.
  • Familiarity with H&S standards and process overseeing the construction of building systems such as HVAC, Electrical and Critical Lift Systems
  • Effective communication skills, attention to detail, and ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Proven ability to evaluate and manage subcontractor safety performance.
  • Experience with Data Center construction projects is an asset (but not mandatory)
Additional Position Requirements:
  • Available to be on client site daily.
  • Experienced in communicating and problem solving as a team with subcontractors.
  • A background and knowledge working with trades such as HVAC technicians, electricians, ironworkers, pipefitters, etc. (preferred).
  • An understanding of the complexities of multi-employer worksites.
  • Experienced trainer on construction safety topics.
  • Experience conducting construction site safety audits and inspections.
  • Experience conducting incident investigations and reporting.
  • Able to juggle multiple priorities with ease, welcomes challenges.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Collaborative problem solver.
  • Excellent written and verbal communicator who understands the importance of timely communications.
