Aquatic Biologist- BC

We are currently looking for an intermediate biologist (5 to 10 years of environmental consulting experience) to join our ever-growing team of dedicated professionals.

Responsibilities will include working under a project manager to complete marine, freshwater, and/or riparian site assessments including reporting, and coordinating junior staff. Assignments will include planning, design, environmental assessments, permitting, construction monitoring and post construction effectiveness monitoring of projects consisting of maintenance, construction and expansion of new and existing port facilities, bridges and commercial, residential and industrial developments. These projects are primarily located in British Columbia. Types of permit applications involved include, but are not limited to, Fisheries Act Authorizations, Water Sustainability Act Change Approvals, Disposal at Sea Permits and Municipal Permitting for works in environmentally sensitive areas. For example, often these projects require dredging, pile installation, fill placement, shoreline armouring or installation of floating structures which require permitting.

The successful candidate will be an effective communicator proficient in conducting a variety of different fieldwork under the direction of more senior biologists, preparing and reviewing reports that meet regulatory and client requirements, while having experience in leading field programs, managing subcontractors and mentoring junior team members.

Specific skills and experience required for the position include:

·A valid drivers license and access to a vehicle.

·Ability to work outdoors in different weather conditions, out of town and weekends on occasion.

·Experience performing tasks on schedule and within budget.

·Excellent problem-solving, writing and communication skills.

·A positive attitude and the ability to be flexible as part of a group of multidisciplinary biologists.

·A registered professional biologist in BC (RPBio); with a B.Sc. degree. A M.Sc. degree would be considered an asset.

·Experience in writing environmental reports that involve marine, aquatic or riparian impacts.

Experience in preparing any of the following would be considered an asset: Aquatic Effects Assessments, Environmental Assessments, Project Descriptions, Construction Environmental Management Plans, Habitat Offsetting Plans, Erosion and Sediment Control Plans, Fish and Fish Habitat Monitoring Plans, Construction Monitoring Reports.

·Experience conducting any of the following field programs would be considered an asset: marine biophysical surveys, above and below water habitat assessments, dive surveys, ROV or drop camera surveys, Riparian Areas Protection Regulation (RAPR) surveys, fish salvages (gee trapping, electrofishing), seining, vegetation surveys, bird surveys, species at risk field assessments, white sturgeon surveys, side scan sonar surveys, hydrophone monitoring, water quality monitoring, sediment sampling, marine mammal observing, construction monitoring.
