We are looking for a dedicated and experienced Equipment Operator for a full-time permanent position in the Prince George, BC area.
The successful candidate will be responsible for safely operating mid-sized excavators using the bucket and thumb to sort and process scrap metal to customer specifications. This is a full-time, year-round job opportunity with many opportunities for increased earnings through overtime and site-based project work. The ideal candidate for the role needs to be attentive to the task and want a long-term career opportunity, with the potential to take on more responsibilities.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Sorts and processes materials to customer specifications using the bucket and thumb.
- Loads and unloads materials from various bins, dumps, trailers, and rail cars.
- Assesses situational risk and mitigates safety and environmental concerns.
- Performs minor maintenance tasks such as lubrication, blade alignment and tensioning.
- Participates in the development and design of processes.
- Assists in the analysis of process improvements and development of solutions.
- Gains awareness of and contributes to implementing industry best practices.
- Additional duties as assigned.
Job Requirements
- 2+ years related training or experience operating different types of excavators, material handlers, and other heavy equipment such as wheel loaders.
- Prior experience with scrap metal recycling, operating a shear attachment or demolition would be a definite asset.
- Mechanical aptitude coupled with strong hand/eye coordination.
- Good interpersonal and customer service skills.
- Safety conscious.
- Flexibility with work shifts and ability to travel occasionally.
Work Environment
- This position is regularly exposed to all weather conditions.
- Physical hazards such as noise, fumes, vibration and dirt are present due to the equipment, machinery, and material we process as would be found throughout a recycling yard.
- Safety shoes, hearing protection, respirators, face shields, and additional personal protective equipment, must be worn to eliminate the risks associated with these hazards.

- $31-33/hour pay range
- Monday to Friday from 8am to 4:30pm (subject to change depending on yard needs)
