Building Automation Technician – Project Specialist (Commissioning)

Position Overview
The Building Automation Technician – Project Specialist plays a key role in delivering high‑quality Building Automation System (BAS) installations and commissioning activities for commercial, institutional, and multi‑residential projects. This position combines hands‑on technical work with project execution, coordination, and client support.
You will work on large, complex construction and retrofit projects, applying advanced BAS knowledge while collaborating closely with mechanical and electrical trades. Key Responsibilities
- Execute a portfolio of assigned BAS projects, ensuring delivery on time and within budget.
- Review BAS drawings, submittals, and sequences of operation for assigned projects.
- Program field controllers, build front‑end databases, and develop or modify system graphics.
- Perform point‑to‑point testing, equipment commissioning, and verification of system operation.
- Complete 3rd‑party integrations (BACnet, Modbus, LonWorks, etc.).
- Troubleshoot software and hardware issues in the field.
- Maintain accurate daily/weekly documentation, site reports, and commissioning records.
- Produce marked‑up drawings, commissioning notes, and as‑built documentation.
- Address project deficiencies identified by clients, consultants, or commissioning agents.
- Coordinate tasks with electrical and mechanical trades throughout the project lifecycle.
- Provide end‑user training to support successful turnover.
- Log project hours and support tickets in internal project management tools.
- Participate in ongoing training and professional development initiatives.
Experience & Qualifications
- College Diploma in Electromechanical Engineering Technology or related field.
- 3–5 years of BAS commissioning, integration, or project execution in construction or retrofit environments.
- Strong understanding of HVAC systems and control principles.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, Visio).
- Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast‑paced field environment.
- Strong communication and client‑interaction skills.
- Effective both independently and in team‑based settings.
- Comfortable adopting new software platforms and interfaces.
- Experience with one or more BAS programming tools:
- Niagara Workbench
- EcoStruxure
- FIN Stack / FinBuilder
- Honeywell Spyder Tools
- Johnson Controls PCT
- Distech GFX
- Familiarity with:
- Building Automation Systems
- IP networking & low‑voltage controls
- Mechanical/HVAC systems
- Electromechanical and pneumatic controls
