Position Overview:
Reporting to a Project Principal, the Energy Modeler will lead and support the development of building energy simulations and performance analyses for a variety of new construction and retrofit projects across commercial, institutional, and residential sectors. The successful candidate will work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams to deliver integrated, data-driven, and sustainable design solutions.
Key Responsibilities:
Technical & Analytical:
- Lead and deliver energy modeling, building performance simulations, and analyses for new builds and retrofits.
- Develop energy models in alignment with National and Provincial Energy Codes.
- Conduct life-cycle cost analyses to evaluate the feasibility of sustainability and energy conservation strategies.
- Prepare detailed technical reports and recommendations to support project design concepts and decision-making.
- Collaborate closely with mechanical, structural, and building envelope teams to develop holistic, decarbonization-focused design solutions.
Project Collaboration & Representation:
- Attend client meetings, design charrettes, and industry events as a technical representative of the firm.
- Work closely with architects, engineers, and other consultants to ensure project deliverables align with performance and sustainability objectives.
- Support proposal and report development as needed.
Professional Development & Mentorship:
- Stay current with emerging technologies, energy codes, and industry best practices.
- Provide mentorship and technical guidance to junior staff.
- Contribute to internal knowledge sharing and continuous improvement initiatives.
Additional Expectations:
- Maintain a proactive, solutions-focused attitude with strong attention to detail.
- Participate in internal meetings to discuss project progress, coordination, and quality assurance.
- Occasional travel within Canada may be required (primarily within British Columbia).
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Building Science, or a related discipline.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in building energy modeling or performance analysis.
- Registered with or eligible for registration with Engineers and Geoscientists BC (EGBC).
- Proficiency in energy simulation software such as IES-VE, eQUEST, EnergyPlus, and RETScreen Expert.
- Strong analytical, written, and verbal communication skills.
- Proven ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and clients.
- A creative and curious mindset, with a commitment to continuous learning and professional growth.
- Valid driver’s license and access to reliable transportation.
