Vice President, Environmental Consulting – BC Region
Overview:
The Vice President of Environmental Consulting is the Leader for technical services of a large and successful multi-disciplinary environmental practice for the BC region. This role will oversee the delivery of first-class environmental consulting services spanning; Environmental Engineering, Contaminated Sites, and Biological Servies to a diverse mix of public and private sector clients.
This individual is responsible for overseeing day-to-day operations while driving longer term initiatives in support of local and corporate priorities. They are accountable to provide superior services clients, ensuring the safety, retention, and development of employees, all while driving profitable growth.
Key Responsibilities:
- Set strategic direction for all technical departments, ensuring alignment with company vision and business objectives.
- Champion technical innovation and excellence in project delivery across environmental engineering, contaminated sites, and biological services.
- Collaborate with department heads and the business development team to identify growth opportunities and expand our market presence.
- Oversee project planning and execution to ensure exceptional client outcomes and regulatory compliance.
- Lead and mentor a team of department heads and technical professionals, fostering a culture of performance, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
- Cultivate strong, long-term relationships with key clients and stakeholders.
- Manage departmental budgets and resources to maximize impact and profitability.
Other Duties & Focus Areas
Business Performance & Strategy
- Develop and implement short- and long-term strategic plans to ensure profitable growth.
- Meet or exceed financial budgets and operational KPIs.
- Identify and pursue opportunities for geographic and/or service line expansion within British Columbia.
Operational Leadership
- Direct the daily operations of the organization, ensuring safe and efficient delivery of exceptional service to our clients.
- Collaboratively develop or improve systems, processes, controls, and procedures that enhance the overall efficiency of the district and quality of customer service.
- Monitor and improve productivity, quality of work, and cooperation within the districts.
- Effectively leverage corporate support functions (e.g. sales, finance, HR).
- Understand and inform senior management of business performance drivers, including key risks and opportunities.
- Ensure compliance with company policies as well as all legal/regulatory obligations as they pertain to each province.
- Perform any other duties as assigned.
People Management
- Set a compelling vision and develop a strong culture for the organization, fostering a success-oriented, accountable environment.
- Lead hiring efforts, onboarding, and professional development of team members.
- Supervise all district employees; providing guidance, training, and performance feedback.
- Identify and develop rising talent within the organization.
- Address performance issues and make staffing decisions in coordination with HR and technical leaders.
Technical Excellence
- Review technical reports to ensure accuracy, professionalism, and compliance with licensing standards.
- Actively contribute to client engagements within your technical area of expertise.
Client relations and Business Development
- Maintain high levels of client satisfaction; proactively resolve client concerns.
- Identify and develop key client relationships.
- Represent the firm at local industry events.
- Support local marketing initiatives and cultivate new business opportunities.
Experience & Qualifications
- Proven leadership / senior management experience in a technical environment, within the environmental consulting sector
- 15+ years of experience in environmental consulting in British Columbia,
- Minimum 5+ years in senior leadership
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in environmental science, Engineering, or a related field.
- A professional designation (e.g., P.Eng., P.Geo., R.P.Bio.) is required; CSAP designation or business education is a strong asset.
- Proven expertise in site assessment, remediation, and environmental regulatory frameworks.
- Exceptional leadership, team building, and communication skills — with a track record of empowering others and leading change.
- Strong business acumen, including experience in budgeting, forecasting, and strategic planning.
- A results-driven mindset with a passion for environmental stewardship and innovation.
- Strong interpersonal, analytical, and decision-making skills.
- Excellent communication skills—both verbal and written.
- Ability to relate to and inspire a diverse workforce.
- Demonstrated track record in developing and nurturing key client relationships.
