What are the Responsibilities?

  • Operate and maintain 3 Power Boilers and 2 Backpressure Turbines that are used to generate on-site power
  • Monitor all processes and equipment, ensuring safe 24/7 operation
  • Respond to emergencies and/or improper conditions, ensuring that established procedures are followed
  • Perform routine operating tasks, including monitoring levels, temperatures, pressures, etc.
  • Monitor operating area for abnormal or adverse conditions
  • Perform basic troubleshooting, electromechanical maintenance with support of other trades
  • Execute sampling and testing as required
  • Assist in preparation of equipment for maintenance
  • Perform housekeeping duties and operational maintenance as assigned, support continuous improvement efforts
  • Cover for the Chief Power Engineer occasionally as required

What are the Requirements?

  • Must present a 1st Class Power Engineering certificate, individuals possessing 2nd Class will be considered as long as they have made demonstrable progress toward obtaining 1st Class
  • Experience operating and performing maintenance within a 1st class facility
  • Expert knowledge of steam, boiler, and turbine operation & processes
  • Strong troubleshooting abilities
  • Must be safety-conscious, willing and able to adhere to all safety regulations and procedures, including Lock Out-Tag Out, Confined Space, Fall Protection, Hot Work and other applicable regulations/practices)
  • High level of technical experience related to the operation of plants and water treatment equipment
  • Food industry experience is considered an asset, not required
  • Must present mechanical aptitude/skills to allow hands-on operation of plant equipment (i.e. DCS control systems, turbo generators, pumps, compressors, heaters, etc.)
  • Ability to work well both independently and as part of a team
  • Knowledge of WHMIS, TDG, and OH&S regulations
  • Great attitude and work ethic
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Leadership aptitude strongly desired
