Job Description

Reporting to the Packing & Shipping Manager, the Packing and Shipping Supervisor is responsible for supervising all packing, shipping and receiving activities.

Tasks:

  • Ensure all safety policies and procedures are adhered to
  • Manage and direct the day-to-day operation of the packing and shipping/receiving personnel
  • Manage and oversee the staffing requirements of the department in order to meet business objectives
  • Create an inspiring team environment with an open communication culture
  • Monitor the teams performance and report and track metrics on a regular basis
  • Utilize departmental data to drive continuous improvement initiatives; identify root causes and execute effective corrective actions
  • Encourage your team members creativity and risk-taking
  • Suggest and organize team building activities
  • Delegate tasks and set deadlines
  • Organize all materials in a safe and productive manner
  • Maintain excellent levels of housekeeping in all areas of responsibility
  • Assist in the implementation of 5S throughout the packing and shipping areas
  • Coordinate and physically control the comings / goings of material through department
  • Ensure all packing material is properly and clearly identified
  • Assist in the planning of full physical year end inventory count
  • Oversee and approve the annual review and update of all departmental work instructions and ISO related documents
  • Audit and provide final approval for vendor billing and fuel surcharge
  • Evaluate and communicate performance appraisals to employees and oversee the execution of the progressive discipline process
  • Comply with all quality related policies, procedures and system requirements
  • Perform other duties as required

Requirements:

  • 3-5 years experience in a supervisory or leadership role
  • 3-5 year experience in a shipping receiving role with exposure to a manufacturing or packing environment
  • Some training and experience in continuous improvement initiatives with exposure to 5 why’s, Kaizans, or lean manufacturing
  • High energy level, self-confidence, time management and a team player,
  • Good organizational skills
  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills to communicate effectively with all levels within the organization and with external stakeholders
  • A well-defined sense of diplomacy, including solid negotiation, conflict resolution, and people management skills. Known for having a high degree of integrity
  • Able to build and maintain lasting relationships with corporate departments and key business partners
  • CTPAT, PAP, CWPCP and USMCA knowledge an asset
  • Minimum College Diploma in business, logistics or manufacturing
  • A mixture of experience and education may be considered
