Required Education and Experience:

  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Mechanical/ Electrical Certification of qualification or equivalent experience
  • 3-4 years experience in supervisory role
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)
  • Expertise in welding and strong problem solving skills
  • Ability to understand machine functions, hydraulic systems, electronic controls, sensors and pneumatics
  • Strong coordination and organizational skills and the ability to lead a team
  • Knowledge of production and quality systems
  • Knowledge of lean manufacturing is an asset
  • First Aid Certified, or willing to acquire certification as soon as possible
  • Knowledge of customer specific requirements and IATF16949 management system
  • Knowledge of ISO14001 & ISO45001 preferred

Essential Functions:

  • Command of welding knowledge which provides the ability to design and make modifications to improve weld fixtures
  • Responsible for Senior Technical Leads and Technical Leads, and Production Associates
  • Lead an assigned Production group to analyze machine downtime to identify and correct mechanical or electrical problems to prevent future breakdowns
  • Assist in troubleshooting equipment (consisting of weld controllers, robotics, and programmable logic controllers) when necessary
  • Implement and maintain preventative maintenance strategy and continuous improvement in welding and production process
  • Liaise with Manager – Operations to ensure proper planning and control for all areas of responsibility in department (e.g. labour, overtime, equipment, personnel issues, etc).
  • Ensure that Lineside boards are updated daily by Technical Leads, and that Lineside board meetings are conducted daily.
  • Monitor and report dashboard on weekly basis
  • Drive the continuous improvement initiatives on all aspect of the job and to encourage all subordinates to do the same
  • Understand and apply 5S and LEAN principles, concepts, practices, and standards and train Production to become competent in these areas
  • Ensure all personnel are following the Quality System and conform to quality standards
  • To train, develop, mentor, direct and discipline personnel to ensure a productive, efficient and competent workforce to meet scheduled requirements in a safe environment
  • Responsible for providing continuous feedback and ensuring timely and adequate completion of Performance Appraisals
  • Ensure Technical Leads complete their assigned Operators’ Performance Appraisals by creating a completion schedule
  • Deliver progressive discipline for hourly associates as required (in conjunction with HR and Manager – Operations)
  • Responsible for verifying and approving hourly associates’ ADP hours worked on daily basis; ensuring overtime does not exceed budget and delivering discipline to those who are in violation of the attendance policy
  • Assist in Hiring Process and provide on the job training/mentorship as required
  • To make recommendation to Senior Management and Human Resources Manager on the confirmation and/or disposition of employees within the probationary period
  • Responsible for ensuring all training within the department is completed in a timely manner, documented and posted at each work station
  • Provide management reports and documentation of key measurable as required
  • Achieve goals and objectives that are set out each year by Manager
  • Maintain a system of communicating ongoing departmental performance to Production Group on a regular basis
  • Ensure Weld Tech Group follows Company policies on Health, Safety & Environment and PPE requirements
  • Abide by all company polices including, but not limited to the following; Health and safety, Quality and Environmental Systems, Human resources policies, and Employee Handbook
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable codes, standards and legislation including Environmental Legislation, O. Reg 851 for Industrial Establishments, and the Occupational Health and Safety Act (with emphasis on Section 28, (1) (a)-(d), (2) (a)-(c)).
  • Abide by all Company polices including, but not limited to the following: Health and Safety, Quality and Environmental Systems, Human Resources policies, and the Employee Handbook

Work Environment:

  • 30% office, 70% plant floor (PPE required)
