Paymaster (Construction)

Our client is a leader in the high technology engineering industry, they are looking for an experienced paymaster that has experience in the construction industry.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the electronic and manual processing of payroll for all employees within companies in Canada and USA, run appropriate control reports and process on a weekly basis;
  • Prepare electronic payment for the bank and issue cheque as required;
  • Maintain a thorough knowledge, Interpret and Implement all Federal, Provincial and Labour laws applicable legislations;
  • Processes ensure and respect that all government (DAS, WCB, CSST, and union remittances) are paid timely and accurately;
  • Maintains and updates current employee records, benefits and garnishes;
  • Coordinate payments to deductions at source where wage garnishes are applicable;
  • Maintains historical human resource records;
  • Prepare records of employment for employees, as required;
  • Coordinate pay slip distributing : emailing and printing;
  • Respond to accounting inquiries related to payroll postings;
  • Make adjustments for Holiday, Vacation or Severance pay as required;
  • Maintains employee benefits programs and informs employees of benefits;
  • Provide and review necessary year end information with the accounting department to ensure proper filing of taxes;
  • Prepare and submit year end summaries and reports: T-4, RL-1, W2, 1099, CNT, CSST & WCB calculations;
  • Complete and submit CSST and other worker’s compensation form and claims;
  • Investigate and resolve payroll issues with management;
  • Ensure that payroll systems are up to date and maintained current with respect to employee information, including taxable benefits and source deductions;
  • Ensure that payroll systems are up to date and maintained current with respect to all union contracts, rates, benefits and dues;
  • Respond to government inquiries regarding employees and claims;
  • Maintains employment compliance programs training requirement;
  • Respond to employee’s inquiries regarding payroll-related concerns;

Assist Management to provide different analyses on a regular basis upon request,

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Bilingual French and English;
  • 5-10 years’ experience in a similar position;
  • Knowledge of Jonas payroll system and ADP payroll an asset;
  • Great knowledge of Construction payroll functions and processing, USA and Canada;
  • Member of Canadian Payroll Association an asset;
  • Strong knowledge of Federal/Provincial/Labour laws and Construction Collective Agreements;
  • Advanced Excel Skills and MS office;
  • Understanding/knowledge of accounting practices;
  • Strong interpersonal and Excellent Communication Skills;
  • Ability to analyze and summarize problems and to work under pressure;
