On behalf of our client, we are looking for an Operations Manager to work at a manufacturing plant located in Langley, BC. You will be reporting to Plant Manager and you will have 6 direct reports and 135 indirect reports. This company has 5 manufacturing facilities throughout Canada and experiencing high growth! Our client produces foam, plastic and moulded pulp products in the areas of retail, food service, produce, and protective packaging industries.

This is a full-time, permanent position with amazing perks and benefits. This is a day shift and you will have to be flexible as this is a 24/7 operation. This is a hand on leadership position and you will be working on-site full-time.

Your tasks as an Operations Manager:

• Direct the Production work force in the daily execution of the production schedule, ensure the department meets all production orders at the right quality, time and lowest cost

• Follow up on issues that cause production to vary from standard efficiency and quality

• Oversee production scheduling to ensure efficient use of resources

• Promote consistent application of plant and corporate policies and procedures across all shifts

• Monitor shift manning levels, identify and correct labour variances

• Ensure accurate daily reporting of production data, generate trend reports

• Identify inherent process characteristics that produce non-conforming product and takes steps to eliminate them, keep quarantined inventory to a minimum

• Work as a seamless team with stakeholders to resolve equipment, process, quality and efficiency problems

• Foster a motivated, enthusiastic and respectful work force with a good working environment

• Oversee training and development of all Production employees

• Liaise with Human Resources on employee matters relating to workplace conduct, Attendance Management and other issues surrounding employee and labour relations

• Ensuring the Production department is in compliance with the Loss Control Management Program

• Ensure safe work habits and conditions in all production areas

• Investigate production problems and engineering solutions through equipment, methods, manpower or procedural changes

• Provide project management for production improvement projects

• Apply principles of Lean Manufacturing, Continuous Improvement and other tools to improve productivity and lower operating costs

The required qualifications of Operations Manager:

• 4 + years as a Production Manager or Operations Manager within a unionized manufacturing plant

• Relevant industry experience: pulp and manufacturing (food, plastic, packaging)

• Lean manufacturing experience

• Management or leadership courses

• Ability to work overtime

• Ability to pass a background check

• Must be available during off hours for consulting and intervening during emergencies

• Flexible to travel on an occasional basis
