We are looking for a Mechanical Engineer – Building Services and Systems

The objective of this position is to perform mechanical engineering and design related to mechanical building services and systems (heating/ventilation/air conditioning/refrigeration, plumbing, drainage, fire protection) using engineering principles, codes, standards and practices.

Current consulting engineering experience of buildings and building services within Canada is required.

This position requires a strong background in mechanical engineering, project management, and a commitment to delivering high-quality solutions.

Responsibilities and play a crucial role in the planning, design, and execution of mechanical systems with a strong emphasis on energy efficiency for a variety of projects within the ICI sector:

  1. Project Planning and Design:
    • Collaborate with project teams to understand client requirements and project goals.
    • Develop detailed mechanical designs and specifications for ICI projects, ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulations.
    • Conduct feasibility studies and analyze technical aspects of projects to provide valuable insights during the planning phase.
  2. System Analysis and Optimization:
    • Perform comprehensive analyses of mechanical systems to identify areas for optimization and efficiency improvements.
    • Evaluate the performance of HVAC, plumbing, and other mechanical systems, recommending enhancements as needed.
    • Stay updated on industry trends and emerging technologies to incorporate innovative solutions into project designs.
  3. Coordination and Collaboration:
    • Work closely with cross-functional teams, including architects, electrical engineers, and project managers, to ensure seamless integration of mechanical systems with overall project requirements.
    • Collaborate with contractors, vendors, and suppliers to select appropriate equipment and materials, ensuring adherence to project timelines and budget constraints.
  4. Regulatory Compliance:
    • Stay informed about relevant local, state, and federal regulations affecting mechanical systems in ICI projects.
    • Ensure designs and installations comply with all applicable codes and standards, obtaining necessary approvals and permits.
  5. Project Management:
    • Take ownership of the mechanical engineering aspects of projects from conception to completion.
    • Develop project schedules, track milestones, and provide regular updates to project stakeholders.
    • Address any unforeseen challenges or issues during the construction phase, working proactively to find solutions.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred.
  • Demonstrated expertise in energy modeling software (e.g., EnergyPlus, eQUEST, IESVE).
  • Proven experience in designing and managing energy-efficient mechanical systems for ICI projects.
  • Familiarity with LEED and other green building certifications.
  • Strong knowledge of renewable energy technologies and their integration into building systems.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Revit, 3D and relevant design software.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
