Position Overview:
The Traveling Site Superintendent will lead on-site construction activities, supervising contractors, subcontractors, vendors, and suppliers. This role requires ensuring that the project stays on schedule, is adequately resourced, and is executed with high standards of quality and safety. This position involves extended travel across North America.
Key Responsibilities:
- Coordinate trade contractors to efficiently meet project milestones.
- Ensure all personnel are properly oriented to the job site.
- Liaise with client representatives to maintain project transparency and alignment.
- Develop and implement look-ahead schedules to manage subcontractor progress.
- Confirm all teams are working from the latest project drawings and specifications.
- Monitor and enforce quality standards for all materials and workmanship.
- Oversee and complete all punch list items during construction phases.
- Provide daily updates to the project team, including photo documentation.
- Enforce safety protocols and ensure clean, hazard-free job sites.
- Identify project risks and recommend preventative solutions.
- Host and coordinate site visits with clients and stakeholders.
- Assist with collecting close-out documentation from subcontractors.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
- Excellent attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
- Strong leadership, written, and verbal communication abilities.
- Ability to set and adapt priorities in a dynamic environment.
- Solid knowledge of key construction disciplines (HVAC, electrical, plumbing, roofing, foundations, carpentry, masonry).
- Proficient in reading blueprints, schematics, and construction documentation.
- Familiar with workplace safety standards and hazard recognition.
- Technologically proficient with Microsoft Office Suite and construction software.
- Capable of managing multiple subcontractor teams simultaneously.
- Working knowledge of building codes, site infrastructure, and utilities.
- Able to foster collaboration and efficiency among diverse trade crews.
Education and Experience:
- Minimum 5 years of experience as a Site Superintendent in commercial construction.
- Willingness to travel throughout North America for extended durations.
- Experience with environmentally controlled construction is an asset.
- Industry certifications such as PMP, LEED, or Gold Seal are advantageous.
- Familiarity with tools like Procore and SiteDocs is preferred.
