We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Journeyman to join our fire protection services company based in Ottawa, Ontario. As a Journeyman, you will be responsible for installing, inspecting, and maintaining various fire protection systems to ensure compliance with relevant codes, regulations, and industry standards. The ideal candidate will possess a strong technical background, exceptional problem-solving skills, and a commitment to safety.

Responsibilities:

  • Install, inspect, test, and maintain fire protection systems, including fire sprinkler systems, fire alarms, fire extinguishers, and other related equipment.
  • Interpret blueprints, drawings, and specifications to determine system requirements and layout.
  • Conduct thorough inspections and tests to identify and rectify any issues or deficiencies in the fire protection systems.
  • Perform routine maintenance tasks such as replacing parts, cleaning equipment, and conducting system checks.
  • Collaborate with team members to ensure efficient project execution, coordinating activities and resources as required.
  • Adhere to relevant codes, regulations, and industry standards, such as the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) guidelines and local building codes.
  • Respond to service calls and emergency situations promptly and effectively, troubleshooting and resolving issues as needed.
  • Document all work performed, including inspections, repairs, and maintenance tasks, accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to less experienced technicians as required.
  • Stay up-to-date with advancements in fire protection technology, attending training sessions and workshops as necessary.

Requirements:

  • Journeyman certification in Fire Protection or related field.
  • Experience working with fire protection systems, including installation, maintenance, and inspections.
  • Strong knowledge of relevant codes, regulations, and industry standards, such as NFPA, Ontario Building Code, and Canadian Fire Alarm Association (CFAA) standards.
  • Proficiency in interpreting blueprints, drawings, and specifications.
  • Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills, with the ability to diagnose and resolve issues efficiently.
  • Familiarity with a wide range of fire protection systems and equipment, including fire sprinklers, fire alarms, extinguishers, and suppression systems.
  • Solid understanding of electrical and mechanical principles as they relate to fire protection systems.
  • Strong commitment to safety protocols and procedures.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to interact professionally with clients and team members.
  • Valid driver’s license and a clean driving record.
